When the Ferguson-Florissant Board of Education filings were announced, one name was noticeably not on the filing list―Brian Fletcher.
Fletcher, who stepped in to fill the void left by former board president John Knowles, said he decided to step away from the board for personal reasons.
“It’s been a wonderful experience,” he told Patch Wednesday afternoon. “I thought it was best to step back and let someone else step in who has less issues than I have at this time.”
Fletcher stepped in to finish the current term in July. He had previously served on the board between 2002 and 2005. He also served as mayor of Ferguson for six years.
Fletcher said he told the board before the election filings closed that he didn’t have intentions to run for his seat.
Fletcher said he’s served in public life for 29 years, and that at the time, he doesn’t see running for another position in the future.
There are three candidates listed for two seats on the Ferguson-Florissant Board of Education. The election will be held April 3.
