Feeling Pretty Inside and Out in Florissant

Tiffany Jackson's Pretty N Posh spa and store treats girls to be better on the inside and outside.

Everyone knows a girl likes to be pampered every once in a while, and now there’s a Florissant place for that specific purpose for young girls.

, which opened in late 2010, not only focuses on making girls beautiful on the outside but on the inside, too.

Owner Tiffany Jackson left her career in nursing to start her dream business, which was inspired from a conversation with her best friend about her daughter.

“I always knew I wanted to own my own business, I just had to find out what it was that I really wanted to do… We were talking about different things we want to do, and the idea just came from there. We were talking about what we could do to empower girls and make it fun.”

After a few years of struggles and hard work, the Florissant native achieved her dream of opening Pretty N Posh.

Walking into the small shop on St. Ferdinand Street seems like you’ve stepped into the perfect princess world. The front of the shop serves as a retail area, where soaps, lotions, nail polishes, robes and other spa-type items could be purchased. Many of the products are included on Oprah’s favorite things list.

The room to the right takes you into the spa area, where girls can receive their manicures and pedicures. While being serviced, girls can sip and enjoy their special cocktails such as a Diva drink with cherry Coca Cola and cherries while listening to Beyonce, Taylor Swift and other artists. Toward the back of the shop, the spa also includes an area for girls to host their birthday parties.

Although the spa takes a prideful stand on improving girls’ looks, Jackson seeks to work on more than the outer shell.

Pretty N Posh also hosts a number of workshops, which can be hosted at the store or anywhere in the St. Louis area. Jackson said the workshops include everything from how to be a good friend, to dating safely and sexual abstinence until marriage, to Internet safety.

“Girls need to know they are ‘posh’,” she said. “They need to know they are all upper class.”

In the long run, she would like to spin off a nonprofit version of Pretty N Posh to host free workshops as well as a mentoring group for girls.

As previously mentioned, the store serves as a spa for girls, retail store and place for girls to host their birthday parties.

Currently, the store’s hours are Fridays, 5-7 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Starting Tuesday, the store will be open daily. For a service or birthday party, Jackson said that people should schedule an appointment.

The licensed spa serves girls, ages 3 and older.
