I beleive that the standards of this city are falling. Junk cars, un-licensed cars, trailers parked anywhere on property in violation of city code. Our neighborhoods are begining to look trashy and it seems to be getting worse not better. As housing prices begin to rise in certain parts of the country, I'm concerned that we might never get back to where we were!

Until the voters start getting out to vote in our local elections, it will not get better. Our Mayor was elected by only getting 5% of the regestered voters in Florissant to vote for him.. Until the residents start paying attentions and get involved, nothing is going to change, it will only continue to decline.

It is such a shame when you see the city go down hill so fast now days.
When you call city hall to complain about a home where the grass has not been cut and home brings the neighborhood down and they do nothing ?
When J. Egan was in charge they would be on it as soon as you called . Not sure if the present staff is just lazy are plain words do not care any more.
If you drive by 250 St. Nicholas LN. the grass has not been cut in the yard since around July they never did trim the yard also. What is the use of calling city hall to complain when nothing is done .
Looks like next election we need to replace every one in city hall starting at the top and get new blood in there to take care of the trouble if we can make it that long with them doing nothing presently to correct the trouble ?

I think Mayor Schneider is doing an excellent job. I have always gotten positive responses to my concerns and they are acted on almost immediately. The city inspectors and the mayor can only do so much - we have had several families evicted in our neighborhood. We are very pleased with the work being done in Florissant.

Sorry to disagree with Colleen, but since March 20th I have been waiting for something to be done to 225 Derhake Road. We are told they have been taken to court, and that was the end of August. Still, the house sits there with nothing being done. The owners of this house are laughing at Florissant because they have been written up several times and Florissant never does anything. It is not right that the neighbors who take care of their houses have to put up with all of the junk and debris at 225 Derhake.

I read his article in the Florissant Focus paper that is delivered quarterly. He seems to be acting on many issues such as getting new businesses, street improvements, and activities such as the concert series this summer. There are MANY MANY vacant houses still and they all need to be addressed individually. There will always be property owners that do not take care of their house and yards. Yes I would like to see more done about this. I would like to see more done about attracting small businesses along with promoting and marketing them. There are many chain restaurants and retail stores, and I realize that brings in the tax revenue, but it is small business people who need the sales. Good example, Ferguson, look at what they have done to their city to bring it up and they do alot of promoting through Facebook, flyers, websites, farmers market and many volunteers.

If you look at Florissant in the last year it reminds me of the city of Jennings when it started to go down hill several years ago. Just look at all the empty homes and all the empty store fronts in last couple years . All of this is not due to people loosing there jobs .

Nothing comes to mind as either extraordinary or horrible with our Mayor. So I feel he's doing an okay job. As far as homes, I've heard sales are on fire in Florissant and in my neighborhood, I"ve seen many rental properties sold to actual home owners. Not as many vacant homes anymore and more YOUNG COUPLES/FAMILIES moving here. I do agree that we need to support our small business owners and get involved in your school districts. Be a part of your community and it will thrive.
