Better Block Project Comes to Florissant

The time has come to build better block. On October 15, 2011, the Better Block Project is coming to South Florissant Road in Ferguson between Adams Street and Carson Road from 10am until 10pm. The Better Block Project is a demonstration tool that uses pop-up businesses and pedestrian amenities to show the potential for a walkable, bikeable environment with energized economic activity. Better Block Projects around the country are showing business potential and sustaining community development by inviting the public to actively participate and provide feedback to guide permanent change.

Temporary businesses will sell their goods in vacant commercial spaces and in blockaded street lanes. Outdoor furniture will be installed to accommodate dining and public gathering. On-street car and bicycle parking as well as bicycle lanes will be striped for the day. Sidewalks will be expanded to create larger pedestrian access routes as well as sidewalk entertainment. The aim of the Ferguson Better Block Project is to give people a real-life experience of the City’s Downtown Strategic Redevelopment Plan, Complete Streets Ordinance and forthcoming Form Based Zoning Code.
